Laser hair removal has gained much popularity over the past few years with both men and women because of its effective results that are both safe and gentle. And with no patient recovery time needed, treatments can easily fit in a busy lifestyle.*

Lasers and energy-based technologies are a safe and effective therapy for a variety of medical and elective cosmetic procedures. Since the opening of Laser Esthetica in 2001, Dr. Nalini Prasad has specialized in laser removal. As a cosmetic enhancement physician with years of training and experience, Dr. Prasad and her team of laser nurses offer the most advanced and effective laser technologies to meet your specific laser hair removal goals.

Why select Laser Esthetica for Laser Hair Removal?

Aesthetic and cosmetic laser technologies are the sole focus at Laser Esthetica. Dr. Prasad offers multiple laser devices including the most advanced hair removal lasers; including, Gentle Max Alex/Yag Laser and the LightSheeer® Diode Laser.

Dr. Prasad and her team understand the differences in individual’s skin pigmentation and hair texture, and they can recommend which laser is best to accomplish your needs. They will prepare a customized treatment plans that fit each unique patient’s skin type, pigmentation, and texture.

Dr. Prasad advises consumers that lasers are powerful medical devices that are best used in a licensed medical office operated by an experienced cosmetic physician. Laser hair removal in the wrong hands can result in pigment changes, skin redness, swelling and blistering. In more severe cases, scarring has occurred. The type of laser used, and the experience and supervision of the laser nurse are important for effective and safe results.
At Laser Esthetica we can create a program specific to your needs. Call our office at (916)783-0580.

  • How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The laser is emitting single wavelength of light which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This causes the melanin to heat up and the heat causes the surrounding hair cell to be damaged. As repeated treatments are done, more and more follicles are damaged resulting in less hair growth.

  • Who is a candidate for laser hair removal?

Anyone with unwanted dark hair is a candidate for laser hair removal. Since the laser only sees melanin (not hair) blonde or white hair cannot be treated.

  • What are the advantages of laser hair removal compared to other hair removal methods?

Laser hair removal is one of the most effective means of getting rid of unwanted hair. Shaving must be repeated frequently and can result in irritation of the skin. Waxing is also not a lasting solution and has a yo-yo effect of hair growth and smoothness. Electrolysis is tedious and requires many treatments. It can also be quite painful.

  • How many treatments will I need?

In general, most patients are happy with 5-8 treatments in a non-hormonal area such as lower legs, bikini and underarms. Facial hair is hormonally dependent and can require regular maintenance treatments on a regular basis. The number of treatments is dependent on the area of the body, the color of the skin and the thickness of the hair. Other components such as genetics and the effectiveness of the laser can also determine the number of treatments.

  • Do the results last?

Our bodies are continuously metabolizing and changing everything in the skin. Patients will usually require some maintenance as time goes on after the initial treatments.

  • Does laser heir removal hurt?

Pain is variable between patients. Our Syneron-Candela Gentlemax laser is known in the industry to be very well tolerated but occasionally our patients may need anesthetic cream prior to the procedure.* We can facilitate that process.

  • What areas of the body can be treated?

Any area that has unwanted hair and that can have contact with the laser surface can be treated.

  • Does hair need to be long to perform the laser hair removal treatment?

No, in fact we will ask you to shave it the previous night or the morning of the treatment. If you are coming in for a consultation, then it may be helpful to have the hair long so we can see the characteristics of the hair.
